A Shaman's Guide to Luclin: Keying

Frostreaver Luclin Keying Checklist

Luclin contains several important access quests, ranging from the Arx Key for Lord Seru through to the key required to enter Vex Thal. This checklist follows the conventional Luclin keying structure while noting where Frostreaver's shared-loot system can broaden the possible sources of key components.

Most Luclin zones do not require a traditional key. The major access requirements become increasingly important as characters move into the higher-level group and raid content.

The principal progression points covered here are Sanctus Seru and the Arx Key, Ssraeshza Temple and the Ring of the Shissar, and Vex Thal and the Scepter of Shadows.

Frostreaver shared loot: The conventional sources listed in this checklist remain the standard reference points. On Frostreaver, however, key components may also drop from other NPCs which share the appropriate loot table. The additional NPC list is not assumed here unless it has been established from reliable Frostreaver data.

Sanctus Seru — Arx Key

Arx Key

Best place/source Sanctus Seru. The conventional four shards come from the four Praesertum named below.
0 / 6

The Arx Key provides access to the inner areas associated with Lord Seru in Sanctus Seru. The conventional Luclin progression requires four shards.

  • Shard of the Shoulder Conventional source: Praesertum Bikun.
  • Shard of the Hand Conventional source: Praesertum Vantorus.
  • Shard of the Eye Conventional source: Praesertum Rhugol.
  • Shard of the Heart Conventional source: Praesertum Matpa.
  • Complete the four-shard key progression Use all four shards in the conventional Arx Key progression.
  • Arx Key received Keying objective complete; access to Lord Seru's area.
Frostreaver: The four Praesertum are the conventional sources shown above. Because Frostreaver uses shared loot tables, the same key components may also appear on other appropriate Luclin raid NPCs sharing their loot table.

Ssraeshza Temple — Ring of the Shissar

Ring of the Shissar

Best place/source Ssraeshza Temple. Watch the Taskmaster progression and the conventional named encounters listed below.
0 / 6

The Ring of the Shissar is the conventional access requirement for the Emperor's Chamber in Ssraeshza Temple. The keying process involves collecting the required components and assembling them through the Taskmaster's Pouch progression.

  • Taskmaster's Pouch Obtained through the Taskmaster portion of Ssraeshza Temple.
  • Zazuzh's Idol Conventional source: Commander Zazuzh.
  • Zherozsh's Ring Conventional source: Commander Zherozsh.
  • Ssraeshzian Insignia Conventional source: named Imperial Guards.
  • Complete the Taskmaster's Pouch progression Combine the required components through the conventional key quest.
  • Ring of the Shissar received Keying objective complete; access to the Emperor's Chamber.
Frostreaver: The conventional sources are retained as the starting point. Shared loot means that appropriate Luclin NPCs may provide components which are conventionally associated with a different NPC. The Taskmaster's Pouch is an important item to watch for during Ssraeshza progression.

Vex Thal — Scepter of Shadows Keying

Vex Thal Key

Best place/source The ten Lucid Shards are associated with different Luclin zones. The later components come through Luclin raid progression.
0 / 13

The Vex Thal key is the major culmination of Luclin access progression. The conventional quest requires a series of components from across Luclin before the final key can be assembled.

Lucid Shards

The conventional Vex Thal progression requires ten Lucid Shards. Each item is named A Lucid Shard, but the individual shards are identified as Ved, Dax, Lor, Dat, Kel, Kelera, Raf, Set, Tak and Vin.

  • A Lucid Shard — Ved Acrylia Caverns — conventional sources: Grimling Skullcrackers / Runed Grimlings.
  • A Lucid Shard — Dax Akheva Ruins — conventional sources: Xi Vius, Shadow Reavers and Shade Golems.
  • A Lucid Shard — Lor Dawnshroud Peaks — conventional sources: Rockhoppers and Sambata.
  • A Lucid Shard — Dat Fungus Grove — conventional sources: Shik'Nar Warriors, Soldiers and Royal Guards.
  • A Lucid Shard — Kel The Grey — conventional sources: Sun Revenants and Stone Beasts / Boulders.
  • A Lucid Shard — Kelera Sanctus Seru — conventional source: Legionnaires of the Hand.
  • A Lucid Shard — Raf The Deep — conventional sources: Thought Horrors and Thought Leeches.
  • A Lucid Shard — Set The Scarlet Desert — conventional sources: Sun Revenants and Sun Reavers on the plateau.
  • A Lucid Shard — Tak The Maiden's Eye — conventional sources: Goranga mobs, particularly the higher-level variants.
  • A Lucid Shard — Vin Ssraeshza Temple — conventional source: Skeletons in the Mines.
  • Glowing Orb of Luclinite A Luclin raid-related component used in the later Scepter of Shadows progression.
  • Planes Rift Obtained through the later Luclin raid progression.
  • Scepter of Shadows received Final keying objective; provides access to Vex Thal.
Important: Each Lucid Shard is lore, so the conventional quest requires one of each of the ten different shards rather than ten copies of the same shard.
Frostreaver: The conventional zone and NPC sources should be treated as the baseline. On Frostreaver, the shared-loot system can allow a key component to drop from another NPC sharing the relevant loot table. Raid components should likewise be considered within Frostreaver's shared raid-loot system rather than assuming that only the conventional named raid target can provide them.
