Before You Start: Creating Your Character on a New Progression Server
Before You Start
A new EverQuest progression server offers something that becomes increasingly difficult to find as a server matures: the opportunity to experience Norrath as a world rather than simply as a series of levels to be completed.
This section is for players who want to enjoy the journey. It is not intended as a guide for those trying to achieve server firsts, reach the level cap as quickly as possible, or rush to the endgame.
In the early days of a progression server, people still travel between starting cities and hunting grounds. Groups form around local populations, and you are far less likely to find a druid or wizard ready to teleport you across the world whenever you need to go somewhere.
Your starting location therefore matters. The zones around your homeland can become the places where you spend your first levels, and the journey between those zones can become part of the adventure itself.
Your Choices Matter
On a fresh progression server, the choices you make when creating your character have consequences.
Your race determines where you begin and can shape your early levelling route. Your deity affects factions, quests and equipment that may become available to you. Your choice of race and class determines which combinations of these options are possible.
The question is not simply "What is the fastest way to level?"
It is "What kind of journey do I want to have?"
Your Levelling Path
Where will your character actually spend the early levels?
Starting in Halas is a very different experience from starting in Faydwer, Freeport, Grobb, Oggok or Odus. Each region has its own natural progression through the surrounding zones, its own dungeons and its own travelling routes.
This guide looks at those natural levelling paths on a fresh progression server, including the different journey taken by Iksar characters and the point at which the server population begins moving into the wider Kunark and Velious progression.
Choosing Your Deity
What does choosing a deity actually mean for your character?
Deity is not simply a piece of character background. Your religious allegiance can affect factions, quests and the equipment available to you throughout your character's progression.
This guide examines deity factions, Symbol Quests, deity-specific jewellery, idols, weapons, shields and other special rewards and restrictions.
Race Quick View
Which races are available, and what do they actually mean for your character?
Your race determines your starting statistics, racial abilities, starting city and the classes you can play. On Frostreaver this also includes the launch availability of Beastlords and Berserkers.
This page is a quick reference showing base statistics, racial abilities, starting cities and available classes for every race.
Class Quick View
Once you know the races, what kind of character can you create?
Your class determines what you actually do — how you fight, how you support a group, and the long-term path your character will follow.
This page gives a short overview of every class available on Frostreaver, plus the few tradeskills that are restricted by class or race.
The goal isn't to get you to the end as quickly as possible.
The goal is to understand your choices well enough that you can enjoy getting there.
