Barbarian Shaman Guide: Cannibalize II Quest

Cannibalize II Quest

Cannibalize II is the second rank of the Shaman's Cannibalize line, allowing the Shaman to convert their own hit points into mana. For Caradawc, as a Barbarian Shaman, the appropriate quest is the Good version of the quest.

The quest takes place across several Kunark zones and begins with Marlyn McMerin in Firiona Vie. Four components must be collected and returned to Marlyn, who rewards the spell scroll McMerin's Feast. Scribing the scroll teaches Cannibalize II.

The Four Components

You need one of each of the following four items.

Quantity Item Source Zone
1 Strange Ochre Clay An army behemoth City of Mist
1 Crushed Diamonds Ground spawn or crafted Timorous Deep / Dreadlands route
1 Yun Shaman Powder A froglok yun shaman Trakanon's Teeth
1 Greyish Bone Chips Skeletal warlord Karnor's Castle

Total required: 4 quest items.

1. Strange Ochre Clay

Quantity required: 1

The first component is Strange Ochre Clay, which drops from an army behemoth in the City of Mist.

The item identifies as Clay of Ghiosk when examined. This is the component representing the clay of Ghiosk requested by Marlyn.

Keep: 1 × Strange Ochre Clay
Source: Army behemoth — City of Mist

2. Crushed Diamonds

Quantity required: 1

There are two ways to obtain the required Crushed Diamonds. The first is considerably easier and should be the preferred method for Caradawc.

Easy Method — Timorous Deep Ground Spawn

A ready-made Crushed Diamonds ground spawn can be found on Golra Island in Timorous Deep at approximately:

-8850, -6040

The ground spawn is the simplest way to obtain the quest component. Invisibility and levitation make reaching the island considerably easier.

Recommended: Use the Timorous Deep ground spawn whenever possible. There is little reason to undertake the crafting route unless the ground spawn is unavailable.

Alternative Method — Make Crushed Diamonds

If the ground spawn cannot be obtained, Crushed Diamonds can be made from a Dread Diamond.

  1. Obtain a Dufrenite.
  2. Travel to the Dreadlands.
  3. Find the gem cutter skeleton in one of the pyramids near the wizard spires.
  4. Have an Enchanter, Necromancer or Bard charm the gem cutter skeleton.
  5. While it is charmed, hail it and ask about the Dread Diamond.
  6. Give it the Dufrenite to receive a Dread Diamond.
  7. Obtain a Spectral Pestle from a spectral guardian in Kaesora or Trakanon's Teeth.
  8. Combine the Dread Diamond and Spectral Pestle using Alchemy.
  9. The result is Crushed Diamonds, which identifies as Crushed Dread Diamonds.

The combination trivialises at approximately 70 Alchemy. The Spectral Pestle is consumed during the process.

Keep: 1 × Crushed Diamonds
Preferred source: Timorous Deep ground spawn

3. Yun Shaman Powder

Quantity required: 1

Yun Shaman Powder drops from a froglok yun shaman in Trakanon's Teeth.

The correct item is black and identifies as Powder of Yun. Be careful not to confuse it with a visually similar powder that can be found elsewhere in Kunark.

The actual Yun Shaman associated with this quest is in Trakanon's Teeth and is around level 41, so this can be a more serious encounter than the name of the mob might suggest.

Keep: 1 × Yun Shaman Powder
Source: Froglok yun shaman — Trakanon's Teeth

4. Greyish Bone Chips

Quantity required: 1

The final component is Greyish Bone Chips, obtained from skeletal warlords in Karnor's Castle.

The item identifies as Obulus Bone Chips and represents bones from someone who has touched the Bath of Obulus.

Keep: 1 × Greyish Bone Chips
Source: Skeletal warlord — Karnor's Castle

Because the skeletal warlord is a named encounter in Karnor's Castle, this is a good item to mention to your group before the mob is killed. Other players will often allow a Shaman who needs the quest to loot it.

Turn-In — Marlyn McMerin

Once all four components have been collected, travel to Firiona Vie and find Marlyn McMerin.

Give Marlyn all four items:

  • 1 × Strange Ochre Clay
  • 1 × Crushed Diamonds
  • 1 × Yun Shaman Powder
  • 1 × Greyish Bone Chips

On a successful turn-in, Marlyn rewards you with McMerin's Feast and you receive experience.

Turn-in NPC: Marlyn McMerin
Zone: Firiona Vie
Reward: McMerin's Feast
Result: Cannibalize II

Cannibalize II

Cannibalize II is the second rank of the Shaman's Cannibalize line. It converts the Shaman's own hit points into mana, allowing the Shaman to recover mana without sitting and meditating normally.

It sits between Cannibalize and Cannibalize III in the Shaman progression.

Spell Level HP Cost Mana Returned
Cannibalize 24 50 HP 20 mana
Cannibalize II 39 67 HP 30 mana
Cannibalize III 54 100 HP 50 mana

Cannibalize II has a 1.25-second casting time and a 2.25-second recast time. The spell is unresistable and targets the caster.

The Shaman spell reference notes that the Cannibalize ranks differ in their HP-to-mana ratios, with Cannibalize II providing a significant improvement over the first rank while retaining the short 1.25-second cast time.

Good vs Evil — What Is Different?

There are two versions of the Cannibalize II quest: Good and Evil. The important point for Caradawc is that the quest components and reward are the same.

Good Version Evil Version
Quest NPC Marlyn McMerin The Great Oowomp
Location Firiona Vie Timorous Deep
Required Items 4 components Same 4 components
Reward McMerin's Feast McMerin's Feast
Spell Learned Cannibalize II Cannibalize II

The Evil Version

The Evil version is given by The Great Oowomp in Timorous Deep. Oowomp asks for exactly the same four components:

  • 1 × Strange Ochre Clay
  • 1 × Crushed Diamonds
  • 1 × Yun Shaman Powder
  • 1 × Greyish Bone Chips

Returning the four items to Oowomp produces the same McMerin's Feast spell scroll, which teaches Cannibalize II.

The principal difference is therefore where the final turn-in takes place and which faction group is appropriate for the character. The Evil quest is intended for Evil characters, while the Good version through Marlyn McMerin is the appropriate route for Caradawc.

For Caradawc: Ignore the Evil turn-in. Collect the same four components and take them to Marlyn McMerin in Firiona Vie.
