Frostreaver Fletching Guide — Fletching in Halas
This guide covers Fletching in Halas for the Frostreaver era, using the components sold by Rain and the verified standard arrow recipes. The aim is to show what the components actually do, how range and damage interact, and which arrows make sense at different stages of a Fletching career.
Fletching in Halas
Rain is the Fletching merchant in Halas. She is a level 50 Merchant and sells 35 goods. For the Frostreaver era, all 35 items in her recorded stock are available.
Her stock includes arrow shafts, arrowheads, fletching, vanes, nocks and the Fletching Kit, as well as bow diagrams, measuring strings, sandpaper and Tailoring Quivers.

How an Arrow Is Made
A standard arrow combine uses four components in the Fletching Kit:
- Arrow Shaft
- Arrowhead
- Fletching or Arrow Vane
- Nock
The important thing is that these components are not interchangeable in what they contribute. The shaft and arrowhead establish the basic damage, the Fletching/Vane determines the arrow class and therefore its range/damage profile, and the Nock selects the range variant within that recipe.
What Each Component Does
Arrow Shaft
Moving from Wooden to Bone, Ceramic and Steel increases the base damage available from the finished arrow.
- Wooden: base 0
- Bone: base 1
- Ceramic: base 2
- Steel: base 3
Arrowhead
- Field Point: +0 damage
- Hooked: +1 damage
- Silver Tipped: +2 damage
Silver Tipped Arrowheads therefore provide the highest damage of the three standard heads.
Fletching / Vane
The six standard Fletching classes have different range profiles. Class 2 provides the longest range, while Class 6 provides the highest standard damage profile.
Nock
Within a given recipe, the Nock selects the range:
- Large Groove — shortest
- Medium Groove — middle
- Small Groove — longest

Maximum standard arrow range: Class 2 with a Small Groove Nock reaches 150 range. Class 5 Small reaches 125, while Class 1 and Class 6 Small reach 100.

Practical Arrow Choices
Maximum Range First
Class 2 Steel Silver Tip — Small Groove

This is the strongest choice when the first priority is maximum range and the second priority is the best damage available at that range.
Balanced Range and Damage
Class 5 Steel Silver Tip — Small Groove
7 damage · 125 range · trivial 202 · yield 10
This gives up 25 range compared with Class 2, but gains one point of damage.
Maximum Standard Damage
Class 6 Steel Silver Tip — Small Groove
8 damage · 100 range · trivial 202 · yield 10
This is the highest-damage standard arrow in this guide, but its range is 50 less than the Class 2 equivalent.
Fletching Progression
The traditional low-cost progression is useful for gaining skill, but it does not have to dictate every arrow you make. A practical Frostreaver approach is to make ammunition that is useful to the character wherever possible, then move to a better arrow when the next useful recipe becomes viable.
The familiar skill progression includes Wood Point recipes beginning at trivial 16, progressing through the early Wood, Bone and higher-class recipes, and eventually reaching the Ceramic/Steel recipes at trivial 202.
Because the goal here is useful ammunition rather than simply maximising the number of combines, the range/damage tables above should be used alongside the skill progression.
Which Arrow Should We Actually Use?
For a character who values maximum range first, then damage, the logical long-term target is the Class 2 Steel Silver Tip Arrow with a Small Groove Nock: 6 damage at 150 range.
If more damage is worth sacrificing some range, Class 5 raises this to 7 damage at 125 range. Class 6 reaches 8 damage at 100 range.
This makes the choice straightforward rather than treating one arrow as universally "best": the correct arrow depends on whether range or damage is the limiting factor.
