Guide to the Veeshan's Peak Key on the Frostreaver Server
One of the defining achievements of Kunark-era EverQuest is obtaining access to Veeshan's Peak. While many guides exist online, most were written for classic EverQuest and do not fully reflect the reality of playing on the Frostreaver server. After working through the key quest myself, I discovered several important differences that are worth documenting.
This guide explains how to obtain the Key of Veeshan on Frostreaver and highlights where the server differs from the traditional guides.
Overview
To obtain access to Veeshan's Peak you must collect:
Medallion of the Jarsath
Medallion of the Obulus
Medallion of the Kylong
Trakanon's Tooth
Once you have all four items, they may be turned in to Emperor Ganak in Trakanon's Teeth to receive the Key of Veeshan.
The Three Medallions
Each medallion consists of three shards.
Traditionally, old EverQuest guides describe each shard as dropping from a specific mob. On Frostreaver, however, the situation appears to be more complicated.
Frostreaver Random Loot Observations
During my own keying process I observed the following:
Bloodgill Marauder dropped multiple shards belonging to different medallions.
Pained Soul dropped nine medallion pieces, including shards from several different medallions.
A Drolvarg Scavenger in Firiona Vie dropped a shard normally associated with Ancient Jarsath.
This strongly suggests that Frostreaver's random loot system has merged many of the traditional shard drops into a shared loot pool.
However, there is currently no evidence that ground-spawn shards or quest reward shards have been randomised.
For that reason, I recommend treating mob-dropped shards separately from quested and ground-spawned shards.
Medallion of the Jarsath
Turn-in NPC: Xiblin Fizzlebik in Timorous Deep.
Top Shard
Location:
Swamp of No Hope
Method:
Ground spawn
Unlike many of the mob drops, this shard appears to remain tied to its original ground-spawn location.
Middle and Bottom Shards
Traditionally obtained from Ancient Jarsath and Bloodgill Marauder.
On Frostreaver these appear to be obtainable through the server's randomised medallion loot pool.
Turn all three shards in to Xiblin Fizzlebik to receive the Medallion of the Jarsath.
Medallion of the Obulus
Turn-in NPC: Slixin Klex in Burning Woods.
Top Shard
This piece is obtained by completing a quest.
First obtain a Burnished Wooden Stave from reanimated mobs in Chardok.
Take the stave to Ssolet Dnaas in Warsliks Woods. Ssolet is located on a small island at approximately +4015, +390.
Ssolet belongs to the Cabilis Residents faction. If your faction is too low you may need to raise faction or use a charm trick to complete the turn-in.
The reward is the Top Shard of the Obulus Medallion.
Middle and Bottom Shards
Traditionally these come from Rotting Skeleton in Dreadlands and Pained Soul in Trakanon's Teeth.
On Frostreaver they appear to be part of the randomised medallion drop pool.
Turn all three shards in to Slixin Klex to receive the Medallion of the Obulus.
Medallion of the Kylong
Turn-in NPC: Professor Akabao in Lake of Ill Omen.
Top Shard
Traditionally obtained through Niblek's Gem Quest in Chardok.
There are also reports of this shard dropping from certain Chardok mobs.
Further Frostreaver testing is still required.
Middle Shard
Traditionally obtained from Verix Kylox's Remains in Karnor's Castle.
On Frostreaver this appears to be part of the shared medallion loot pool.
Bottom Shard
Location:
Kaesora Library
Method:
Ground spawn
As with the Jarsath ground spawn, there is currently no evidence that this piece has been altered by Frostreaver's random loot rules.
Turn all three shards in to Professor Akabao to receive the Medallion of the Kylong.
Trakanon's Tooth
The final component of the key comes from Trakanon himself in Old Sebilis.
You must loot Trakanon's Tooth.
For most players this will be the final hurdle before completing the key.
Final Turn-In
Once you have:
Medallion of the Jarsath
Medallion of the Obulus
Medallion of the Kylong
Trakanon's Tooth
travel to Emperor Ganak in Trakanon's Teeth.
Hand in all four items to receive the Key of Veeshan.
Congratulations. You now have permanent access to Veeshan's Peak.
Current Research
At the time of writing, several questions remain unanswered:
Exact Frostreaver spawn locations for the Swamp of No Hope ground spawn.
Exact Frostreaver spawn location for the Kaesora library ground spawn.
Whether Niblek's quest reward remains fixed.
Whether all mob-dropped shards share a single loot pool.
As additional information becomes available, I will update this guide.
Good luck, and may your medallion pieces be the ones you actually need.
