The Coldain Ring Quests: A Complete Journey Through Velious

Useful Coldain Ring Quest References

Before beginning the quest line, ensure you have sufficient Coldain faction and speak with Garadain Glacierbane in Eastern Wastes to start your journey toward the legendary Coldain Hero's Ring.

The Coldain Ring Quests

Among all of EverQuest's classic quest lines, few capture the spirit of adventure quite like the Coldain Ring Quests. Stretching across the frozen continent of Velious, the series takes a player from trusted ally to legendary hero of the Coldain dwarves.

Unlike many modern MMORPG quest chains, the Ring Quests do not simply hand out rewards. They require faction work, exploration, combat, diplomacy and eventually participation in one of the most famous scripted events in the game's history.

For anyone adventuring through Velious, especially dwarves, barbarians and other good-aligned characters, the Coldain Ring Quests remain one of EverQuest's defining experiences.

Getting Started

The quest line begins with Garadain Glacierbane in Eastern Wastes.

Before he will entrust you with important tasks, you must have sufficient Coldain faction. Most players build this faction by turning in Ry'Gorr Orc belts and war beads obtained in Eastern Wastes.

The easiest way to think about the quest series is that each completed task upgrades your insignia ring and advances the Coldain story.

Ring One: Proving Your Intentions

The first ring serves as an introduction to the Coldain struggle.

Garadain tests whether the player can be trusted. The tasks are relatively straightforward and involve assisting the Coldain in their conflict with the Ry'Gorr orcs.

Ring Ten: The Ring War

The Ring War is one of EverQuest's most memorable events.

Triggered in Eastern Wastes, the event launches a full-scale military engagement between the Coldain and their giant enemies.

Coldain soldiers march into battle.

Giants respond.

Named commanders appear.

The battlefield becomes a chaotic struggle for survival.

Unlike ordinary quests, success depends on protecting key Coldain leaders while defeating giant commanders. Poor preparation can lead to failure and force players to wait for another opportunity.

Even today, the Ring War remains one of the finest examples of large-scale dynamic content from EverQuest's early years.

Coldain Hero's Ring

Raid-Level Event

The Coldain Hero's Ring

The final reward is not merely a piece of equipment.

It represents everything accomplished throughout the quest line:

Faction earned.
Battles fought.
Alliances forged.
A kingdom defended.

Many players eventually replaced the ring with newer equipment, but few forgot the journey required to obtain it.

Why Every Velious Player Should Experience the Ring Quests

The Coldain Ring Quests embody what made classic EverQuest special.

Progress was earned rather than granted.

Faction mattered.

Actions had consequences.

The world felt alive.

For dwarf paladins, the quest line feels like a sacred duty. For barbarian shamans, it feels like coming to the aid of northern allies. For everyone else, it offers a chance to become part of one of the greatest stories Velious has to offer.

More than twenty years later, the Ring War still stands as one of EverQuest's finest achievements and a reminder of how memorable virtual worlds can become when players are allowed to earn their place within them.
