Lethar: A New EverQuest Adventure Begins

Image
Inside Crescent Reach There is something rather exciting about starting a new EverQuest server. I've played EverQuest for a very long time, and I've been through more than a few new servers and progression starts over the years. But Lethar feels different from the traditional progression server experience, and that is what has caught my attention. For a start, we're not going back to 1999. Lethar launches with The Serpent's Spine , which means that a brand-new character is effectively starting in the modern EverQuest experience. This is particularly interesting to me because today's EverQuest has a very different approach to introducing new players than the game I first knew all those years ago. Rather than simply being dropped into Norrath and left to work everything out for ourselves, there is now a much more structured journey available. And that is exactly what I'm going to do. Doing it all again My intention on Lethar is to follow the Hero's Journey . T...

The Frostreaver Campaign – Part 3: First Steps into Raiding

Image
The Frostreaver Campaign The story of Frostraiders' raid progression on EverQuest's most unusual Time-Locked Progression server. Every strategy eventually reaches the moment when planning gives way to action. For Frostraiders, that moment came with the guild's first raids. Recruitment had been completed, objectives had been agreed and preparations were finished. It was finally time to discover whether careful planning would translate into success on the battlefield. These opening raids were about far more than collecting equipment. They were the first real test of the guild itself. Every encounter offered an opportunity to learn, adapt and refine a strategy that would eventually carry Frostraiders through some of EverQuest's greatest challenges. The First Test No guild on Frostreaver could rely entirely on experience from previous progression servers. While many encounters were familiar, the server's unique r...

The Frostreaver Campaign – Part 2: Building Frostraiders

The Frostreaver Campaign The story of Frostraiders' raid progression on EverQuest's most unusual Time-Locked Progression server. Every successful raid guild begins long before the first dragon is pulled. Equipment can be earned, strategies can be refined and mistakes can be corrected, but a guild's culture is established from the very beginning. On Frostreaver, where three expansions were available from day one, that culture would become one of Frostraiders' greatest strengths. There was no established roadmap for success. Classic, Kunark and Velious each offered tempting opportunities, but attempting everything at once would stretch even the most organised guild beyond its limits. Frostraiders needed to become more than a collection of experienced players; it needed to become a disciplined organisation with a clear purpose. A Guild With a Purpose Many guilds are formed around friendships, personalities or the pr...

The Frostreaver Campaign – Part 1: Why Frostreaver Was Different

The Frostreaver Campaign The story of Frostraiders' raid progression on EverQuest's most unusual Time-Locked Progression server. Every EverQuest progression server tells a story. Usually that story follows a familiar path. Classic gives way to Kunark, Kunark gives way to Velious, and each expansion becomes the stepping stone to the next. Guilds learn the encounters, farm equipment for months, and gradually prepare themselves for the next chapter. This series tells a very different story. It follows the raid progression of Frostraiders on Frostreaver , a unique EverQuest Time-Locked Progression (TLP) server whose rules transformed not only the pace of progression but the very strategy required to succeed. Rather than documenting every raid or every item, this series examines the strategic decisions that shaped the guild's journey and explains why success on Frostreaver required a completely different philosophy from th...
