Enhancing Your EverQuest 2 Experience: DarqUI, EQ2Maps and EQ2U
EverQuest II is an enormous game, and there is a lot of information for players to keep track of. Fortunately, you do not have to rely entirely on the standard game interface and your own memory.
A number of community-created tools have developed around EverQuest II that can make playing the game easier, improve the user interface, help you navigate Norrath and give you a better understanding of your character's progression.
Three particularly useful resources are DarqUI Unified, EQ2Maps and EQ2U.
DarqUI Unified
DarqUI Unified is a comprehensive user-interface modification for EverQuest II. It provides an alternative to the standard interface and allows players to customise many aspects of the way information is displayed.
DarqUI includes a wide range of improvements covering character management, hotbars, inventory, quests, equipment and many of the other windows used during normal gameplay.
The advantage of a custom interface is not simply that it looks different. A well-designed interface can make information easier to find and reduce the amount of time you spend opening and closing windows.
For players who spend a lot of time managing equipment, abilities, quests and inventory, these small improvements can make a significant difference to the overall experience.
DarqUI Unified is available from EQ2Interface:

EQ2Maps
EQ2Maps is designed to improve the maps available in EverQuest II.
Norrath is a large place, and many of its zones contain a considerable number of NPCs, quest objectives, named creatures, points of interest and other locations that are not always obvious from the standard map.
EQ2Maps adds considerably more information to the game's maps, making it easier to find your way around both familiar and unfamiliar areas.
- Detailed zone maps showing important locations and points of interest.
- Quest information helping you locate objectives and NPCs.
- Dungeon and instance maps providing additional information for more complicated areas.
- Custom markers allowing you to record locations that are useful to you.
This can be particularly useful when working through older content. EverQuest II contains hundreds of zones, and remembering exactly where a particular NPC or quest objective is located is not always easy.
EQ2Maps can turn a frustrating search into a quick glance at the map.
EQ2U
While DarqUI and EQ2Maps improve the experience inside the game, EQ2U provides an external source of information about your character.
EQ2U provides character profiles containing information about equipment, statistics, spells, achievements and progression.
This makes it useful when you want to examine your character in more detail than is convenient through the game itself.
Character Information
One of the most useful aspects of EQ2U is the ability to examine your character's equipment and statistics.
This can help you identify weaknesses in your character and understand where improvements can be made.
It is also useful when comparing equipment. Rather than relying entirely on the item's level or a single statistic, you can look at the wider effect of changing equipment and consider how an upgrade fits into your character's overall setup.
Achievements and Progression
EQ2U also provides information about achievements and other aspects of character progression.
For a game as old and extensive as EverQuest II, this can be particularly useful. There are so many quests, achievements, collections and progression systems that it can be difficult to remember everything your character has already completed.
Having an external record gives you another way of working out what you have accomplished and what you might want to pursue next.
Guild and Raid Information
EQ2U also provides information useful to players involved in guilds and raiding.
Guild information and raid-related statistics can provide a broader picture of your character's role and progression within the game.
For players who are interested in analysing their performance or comparing their character with others, this can make EQ2U a useful companion to the game itself.
Using the Tools Together
The real advantage comes from the fact that these tools solve different problems.
DarqUI Unified improves the way you interact with the game.
EQ2Maps makes it easier to navigate the world.
EQ2U provides an external reference for your character and progression.
They therefore complement rather than replace one another.
You might use DarqUI while playing, open EQ2Maps when you cannot find a particular location, and then use EQ2U when you want to examine your character in greater detail.
You Don't Have to Use Everything
None of these tools is essential. EverQuest II can still be played perfectly well using the standard interface and the information provided by the game.
They are useful because they remove some of the friction involved in playing a game that has accumulated more than twenty years of content.
If you prefer the standard interface, there is no reason to change it. If you find yourself constantly searching for information, however, these tools are worth investigating.
Making Norrath Easier to Navigate
EverQuest II is an unusually large MMORPG. Its longevity means that there are layers of systems, zones and progression built up over many years.
The community tools that have grown around the game recognise that problem and provide ways of making all that information more accessible.
DarqUI helps you manage the interface. EQ2Maps helps you find your way around. EQ2U helps you understand your character.
Together, they can make the EverQuest II experience more convenient, more informative and, ultimately, more enjoyable.
