Frostreaver TLP - Barbarian Shaman Guide Part 3: Levels 11–25 in the Everfrost Peaks
By the time a Barbarian Shaman reaches level eleven, much has changed. The frozen channels near Halas have long since ceased to provide worthwhile experience, the Initiate Symbol of the Tribunal hangs proudly around your neck, and Blackburrow has become a familiar hunting ground rather than a terrifying dungeon.
While many adventurers remain in Blackburrow throughout their teens, others return to the wilderness of Everfrost. Beyond the well-travelled routes between Halas and Blackburrow lies a vast expanse of tundra, frozen rivers and hunting grounds capable of supporting a Barbarian Shaman well into their twenties.
The Everfrost Peaks offer something that many dungeons do not. There is room to roam, valuable quest items to collect, profitable loot to sell and a surprising number of quests that reward exploration rather than simple grinding.
The Spider Camp (Levels 15–25)
Location: The south wall of Everfrost, roughly halfway between the Halas entrance and the river.
One of the best hunting locations in Everfrost can be found along the southern wall of the zone. This camp is home to gigantic spiders which remain excellent experience targets from approximately level 15 through to level 25.
Few outdoor camps remain useful for such a long period, making the area particularly attractive for players who prefer steady hunting over constant relocation.
Notable Loot:
- Spider Silk
- Vendor loot
- Consistent experience
Players may remember collecting Spiderling Silk from the smaller spiders around Halas during their earliest levels. Spiderling Silk can be combined into Silk Thread and forms the foundation of many tailoring recipes. Spider Silk is a more advanced tailoring material and becomes increasingly useful as tailoring skill improves.
The Mammoth Camp (Levels 22–27)
Location: The Y-shaped junction in the frozen river.
As the spiders begin to lose their appeal, many players move north-west to the Mammoth Camp.
The mammoths found here are generally suitable from around level 22 through to level 27 and provide a steady stream of valuable loot. Their tusks sell to merchants for substantial amounts of platinum and can dramatically improve a young Shaman's finances.
The camp is more chaotic than the Spider Camp. Mammoths roam over a wider area, pulls are less predictable, and players must pay greater attention to their surroundings. The rewards, however, often justify the additional risk.
Notable Loot:
- Mammoth Tusks
- Mammoth Calf Skins
- Excellent platinum income
Mammoth Calf Skins should always be retained for future quest turn-ins.
The Head of Granin O'Gill
Having earned the Initiate Symbol of the Tribunal, young Shamans can continue serving the cause of justice through another Halas quest.
This quest begins with Margyn McCann, the Shaman Guildmaster located inside the Shaman Guild in Halas. She can be found using the Find function (Ctrl+F).
Quest Reference: The Head of Granin O'Gill
Unlike the Initiate Symbol quest, which focused on travel and service, this task requires direct action.
Margyn explains that a former member of the Shamans of Justice has renounced the Tribunal and fled into the Everfrost wilderness. His name is Granin O'Gill and justice demands that he be brought to account.
To receive the quest you must have at least Amiable faction with the Shamen of Justice.
Granin can be found wandering the eastern half of Everfrost near the giant statue. He is a low-level Shaman who can cast Burst of Flame and hits for up to twenty points of damage.
Once defeated, he drops the Barbarian Head required for the quest.
Return the Barbarian Head to Margyn McCann and she will reward you with Spirit of Bear, experience, faction and coin.
Cindl's Continuing Importance
Readers of Part One will remember Cindl, the tailoring supplies merchant located inside Mac's Kilts in Halas.
Quest Reference: Cindl's Wristband Collection
After completing her earlier work, ask Cindl about her "second job."
She explains that she has become interested in Wrath Orc Wristbands carried by the snow orcs of Everfrost. In exchange for two wristbands she will reward adventurers with pieces of Raw Hide Armour.
Wrath Orc Wristbands drop from:
- Snow Orc Troopers
- Snow Orc Shamans
Raw Hide Armour represents a meaningful upgrade over both Patchwork Armour and Tattered Armour and provides a good reason to spend time hunting snow orcs.
The Polar Bear Cloak
Not every equipment upgrade comes from Halas.
Quest Reference: The Polar Bear Cloak
Karg IceBear wanders the Everfrost tundra and is often seen near the North Tower.
To obtain a Polar Bear Cloak, simply give him:
- One Polar Bear Skin
- Five Platinum Pieces
In return he will create a Polar Bear Cloak.
This provides another use for Polar Bear Skins long after a player has finished collecting Tattered Armour from Cindl.
Other Creatures Worth Hunting
Not every useful creature in Everfrost is found at the major camps.
- Snow Orcs – Drop Wrath Orc Wristbands used for Raw Hide Armour and Rogue weapon quests.
- Snow Leopards – Drop Ruined Cat Pelts which can be used to create normal-sized patchwork armour.
- Polar Bears – Provide Polar Bear Skins for cloak crafting.
As in Part One of this guide, one of the most important lessons remains unchanged: loot is rarely just loot.
For Other Halas Adventurers
Although this guide focuses on Barbarian Shamans, the Everfrost Peaks also contain useful quest content for Rogues and Warriors.
Rogues
Mammoth Calf Skin Quest
Quest Reference: Mammoth Calf Skins
Cappi McTarnigal accepts four Mammoth Calf Skins and rewards rogues with faction and special armour pieces.
This gives rogues an additional reason to hunt mammoths beyond the platinum earned from tusks.
The Seax
Quest Reference: The Seax
Returning four Wrath Orc Wristbands to Lysbith McNaff rewards the player with a Seax, a Northman piercing weapon usable by rogues.
Warriors
Ivan McManus' Remains
Quest Reference: Ivan McManus' Remains
Beginning with Renth McLanis in Halas, this quest sends players across Everfrost searching for a missing courier before ultimately diving beneath the frozen river to recover the scattered remains of Ivan McManus.
Lion Meat Shipment
Quest Reference: Lion Meat Shipment
This quest takes players beyond Everfrost and into West Karana.
The Langseax
Quest Reference: The Langseax
Completion of both Ivan McManus' Remains and Lion Meat Shipment is required before a Warrior can pursue the Langseax.
Life in the Peaks
By the time a Barbarian Shaman reaches the mid-twenties, Everfrost begins to feel less like a hostile wilderness and more like home.
The same tundra that once seemed vast and dangerous now contains familiar hunting grounds, trusted merchants, useful quest givers and reliable sources of income. Mammoths provide platinum, spiders provide tailoring materials, snow orcs provide armour quest components, and the continuing quests of Halas ensure that there is always another goal to pursue.
Whether hunting spiders along the southern wall, mammoths beside the frozen river, or snow orcs roaming the tundra, the Everfrost Peaks provide enough content to carry a young Barbarian Shaman well beyond the beginner stages of their career.
From Guide to Story
Much of the hunting described in this guide forms the basis of the second chapter of Caradawc.
If you would like to experience life in the Everfrost Peaks through the eyes of a young Barbarian Shaman, read:
Caradawc: The Fellowship of Everfrost
The story follows Caradawc as he moves beyond the frozen channels near Halas, hunts the spiders and mammoths of the Everfrost Peaks, and discovers that survival in Norrath is often easier when faced alongside trusted companions.
