Deity-Specific Idols

Deity-Specific Idols

Deity-specific idols are small magical items made through Pottery and tied directly to the deity your character follows.

Each deity has its own idol, made using an imbued gem associated with that deity. The finished idol provides statistics or resistances and can be equipped in the Primary, Secondary or Range slot, depending on the item.

Unlike ordinary pottery, creating these idols brings together several different tradeskills and requires cooperation between characters of different classes.

The Deity Idol System

The classic deity idols form part of EverQuest's wider religious equipment system. There are fifteen deity-specific idols, corresponding to the fifteen deities represented by the imbued-gem system.

The idol is made in two main stages. First, the required materials are combined on a Pottery Wheel to produce an unfired idol. The unfired idol is then fired in a Kiln to produce the finished deity idol.

Important: The finished idol is deity restricted. Your character must follow the deity associated with the imbued gem used to create the idol.

How the Idols Are Made

1. Magic Clay

An Enchanter uses Enchant Clay to create the Large Block of Magic Clay required for the idol.

2. Vial of Mana

An Enchanter creates the required mana component used in the Pottery Wheel combine.

3. Imbued Gem

The appropriate deity's gem must be imbued by a suitable level 29 or higher spell caster who follows that deity.

4. Pottery Wheel

The imbued gem, magic clay, mana component, Idol Sketch and Sculpting Tools are combined on a Pottery Wheel to produce the Unfired Idol.

5. Divine Crystalline Glaze

Divine Crystalline Glaze is required for the final firing. Its components include White Lead, Iron Oxide, Permafrost Crystals and Water.

6. Final Firing

The Unfired Idol is combined with Divine Crystalline Glaze and a High Quality Firing Sheet in a Kiln to create the finished idol.

Tradeskills Involved

The deity idol system is unusual because no single character necessarily needs to perform every part of the process.

Component Method Class / Skill
Large Block of Magic Clay Enchant Clay Enchanter
Vial of Clear Mana Clarify Mana Enchanter
Imbued Gem Deity-specific Imbue spell Cleric, Druid, Shaman or Wizard depending on deity
Unfired Idol Pottery Wheel — trivial 255 Pottery
Divine Crystalline Glaze Glaze Mortar Multiple components
White Lead Poison Making Rogue
Finished Idol Kiln — deity-specific firing trivial Pottery
Tradeskill cooperation: The idol system is a good example of EverQuest's interconnected tradeskills. An Enchanter supplies magical components, a deity-following caster supplies the imbued gem, a Potter creates the idol, and a Rogue can be required for the White Lead used in the glaze.

Firing the Idol

Once the Unfired Idol has been created, it is not yet usable. The final firing requires a High Quality Firing Sheet and Divine Crystalline Glaze.

The finished idol is produced in a Kiln. The firing stage is considerably easier than the initial Pottery Wheel combine, with the deity-specific firing recipes having lower trivials than the 255 required to make the Unfired Idol.

The result is a lightweight magical item that can be equipped in the appropriate Primary, Secondary or Range slot.

Why Deity Matters

Choosing a deity can therefore have practical consequences beyond faction and roleplaying. Deity-specific equipment can provide useful statistics, resistances and other benefits that are unavailable to characters following a different deity.

The idol is one part of this wider system. Your deity may also determine access to Symbol Quests, deity-specific jewellery, weapons, shields and other special rewards.
